Fascinating is an understatement when it comes to the unrivaled cityscape that portrays the story of Suzy Marden’s life.
Graduating with a BFA from Tufts University/Museum School of Fi ne Arts, Marden is deeply inspired by the eternal bond between the city backdrop she calls her home and the nature that engulfs it. Marden considers it part of her daily routine to be an observer. She confidently refers to herself as a “witness to the outside world.”
It is Marden’s artistic goal that each of her unique pieces “finds its own voice.” She lives each and every day waiting for distinctions in her urban setting to create a truly exquisite moment. Marden works solely with acrylic paint and uses a map as her canvas. Layering the map with the acrylics establishes something truly magical by adding dimension and texture to the artwork. “What is new falls down around what is old,” Marden says, comparing her artistic poetry to what occurs in nature over time.
It is inspiring and refreshing that Marden likes to get her hands dirty – completely manipulating the wet acrylic by touching it, scratching it and moving it around. This motivation is an act that cannot be stopped – Marden always keeps on going, working her acrylic. Marden has been successful in selling and showing her artwork to MFA advocates, private collectors and corporate collections. When it comes to her work, it is clear this inspiring artist never likes to play it “safe.” † www.suzymardenart.com
