The Apples of Autumn’s Eye
Photographed by Bobby DiMarzo
In New England, it’s hard to be sour in fall: bold red, orange and yellow leaves sway on the trees; the bite on the wind is a nice break from summer’s relentless heat; and our favorite cool-weather closet staples can make their appearance again.
This year, we took a trip to Cider Hill Farms in Amesbury to enjoy a city-break among the apple orchards, corn mazes and picture-perfect fields of green. And, of course, to sample some of their famous apple cider donuts. Don your newest sweaters and, with family and friends, step out for a New England weekend done right.
A velvet dress might seem out of place for apple picking, but don’t be hasty—anyone can do it! Jennie was a stunner as she set off for a day on the farm, her bag of freshly picked apples in tow. Balmain Studded V-Neck Velvet Mini Dress, $2,445
Even the sweetest sweater can be made sultry with the right jacket. The only chill here is in Jesslynís layers of mix-and-matched colors with wool, fur and leather. Acne Studios Velocite Lamb Fur Jacket, $2,700. Acne Studios Albah Alpaca Stripe Sweater, $560.
For Jesslyn, navy is no forbidden fruit. In a simple cut, it has a major wow-factor that seems made for the orchards and the city streets alike. Don’t be shy—take a bite of one of fall’s staple pieces! Balenciaga Ribbed Knit Scarf‑Tie Sweater, $885
Motorcycle chic requires a pit stop in the countryside, too. Stay the coolest in the schoolyard (or on the swing set) in Alexander McQueen’s edgy leather. Alexander McQueen Leather Zip Jacket, $4,450, Leather Biker Pants, $2,995, Ribbed Wool Illusion Top, $1,095.
